Which starter pack should you buy first?

For an undecided first-time player, choose the least expensive suitable package with game access in the source-dated starter comparison. A larger pledge is optional. A previous promotional price is not a reason to assume today's cheapest option.

If you have not tried Star Citizen

Read the PC requirements and alpha limitations first. A confirmed public Free Fly can help you decide without buying immediately; an in-game mission rental may require access you already own.

If you know the activity you want

Compare a role pack only when its activity is your reason to buy. Citizen and Generalist are recorded entry options; Duelist offers the Avenger Titan, while Privateer is the recorded Cutlass Black package. Mining and salvage packages serve different aims. Check the actual current contents before choosing.

Flying with friends does not automatically mean you must buy the biggest ship. Agree who already owns game access and who will provide the ship. Do not assume an older ship recommendation is a controlled gameplay test.

What can you change later?

RSI's upgrade system may let you change an eligible ship by paying the applicable difference. Current upgrade availability and restrictions matter. Some ships can also be rented or bought in-game, depending on the build. Neither route guarantees every ship or a fixed future price.

Apply the code before choosing a package
