Star Citizen system requirements: check your PC before buying

The official minimum is a 64-bit Windows 10 system, a compatible quad-core CPU, 16 GB RAM, a DirectX 11.1 graphics card with 4 GB VRAM, and 150+ GB of SSD storage. The CPU must support AVX, AVX2 and FMA3; GPU drivers need Vulkan 1.2 support. RSI does not provide native macOS or Linux support. RSI PC requirements

Minimum versus recommended

RSI recommends Windows 10 or 11, a compatible quad/eight-core processor, 32 GB DDR4, an 8 GB VRAM DirectX 12 card and 150+ GB SSD storage. Its CPU examples include Intel i7 Haswell or later and AMD Ryzen 5 or later. These are compatibility guidelines, not results from our own hardware benchmarks.

Check the whole machine

Record the actual CPU model, graphics card and driver version, installed RAM, available SSD space and operating system. A brand name alone is insufficient. Leave room for installation and later updates rather than treating the listed storage figure as a fixed download size.

Test before upgrading

Performance depends on the scene, server, background applications and network conditions. We cannot promise that one RAM, CPU or drive upgrade will eliminate stutter. Try a public Free Fly when available, note what failed, and spend on hardware only after identifying the limitation.
