Star Citizen release date: is it out yet?
No firm 1.0 date, but it is playable right now. Here is the honest status.

Short answer: there is no confirmed full-release (1.0) date for Star Citizen, but you do not need to wait. The Persistent Universe is a playable alpha right now, currently Alpha 4.10.1, and you can buy in or try it free during a Free Fly today.
"When does Star Citizen release?" is the wrong question for most people. It has been playable for years and gets bigger every patch. Here is the honest status.
The honest status
- The alpha is live now. The Persistent Universe (the multiplayer game) is playable today on the current build, Alpha 4.10.1. This is not a beta sign-up or a wait-list, you can play it.
- No confirmed 1.0 date. Star Citizen is crowdfunded and developed in the open, with no official full-release date. Anyone quoting a hard "release year" is guessing.
- Squadron 42 is separate. The single-player campaign was announced as feature-complete, but has no firm launch date as of 30 September 2026. It does not gate the multiplayer game. More on Squadron 42.
So should you wait for release?
No real reason to. The alpha already offers flying, trading, mining, salvage, bounty hunting and more, and it improves on a roughly bi-monthly patch cycle. If you wait for 1.0, you could be waiting a long time and missing years of a game that is already fun. The counter-argument: if you only enjoy finished, stable games, then waiting is fair, because it is still an alpha with bugs.
