Star Citizen Caterpillar

Caterpillar role, variants and buying considerations. Check the source-dated RSI specifications before choosing a hull.

By Domux. Updated 2026-10-03.

The Drake Caterpillar is a large, rugged modular cargo ship: a spine of cargo modules with a detachable command pod, built to haul serious tonnage.

What it is

Cargo is its life. The Caterpillar carries big loads for trade and hauling runs, and its modular design makes it flexible for crews who move goods at scale. How trading works.

Who it is for

Players serious about cargo hauling and trading at volume, usually with a crew. A classic upgrade target, earned in-game, not a first ship.

Plan the cargo operation

Select a freighter around the goods and routes you can realistically handle. More cargo space increases loading work and the amount of money tied up in a run. A planned modular design is not proof that every advertised module can be fitted today.

Trading risk and capital. These are buying considerations based on intended roles, not measured flight-test results.

Check the source-dated RSI specifications below for variants and production status. In-game purchase and rental availability need a separate check. For first-time access, choose a Game Package; standalone ships do not include the game licence.
